Excerpt from The Secret Keeper

Charlotte sat on the couch, her legs crossed. She was biting her nails again, something she always did when deep in thought.

“Charlotte, stop that,” her mom said as she whisked through the living room. It was Thursday – cleaning day – and Charlotte knew to stay out of her way on Thursdays.
