Friday flash 55

The chair in the coffeeshop was as hard and uncomfortable as a high school bleacher. A puff of steam climbed out the lid of her coffee and she began to write furiously.

Two hours passed before she realized that her lower back had a familiar ache. Satisfied with her work for the day, she turned off her laptop and packed the books into her bag. Upon standing, the pain tore through her leg like a jagged knife.

Oh, crap.

Be careful with the Chiro…I saw one when I first hurt my back. The X’rays showed no reason that I couldn’t have an “adjustment” after three sessions I was in so much pain that I no longer had use of my legs and had to be rushed to the Orthopedic Surgeons. An MRI showed I had sever spinal stenosis and a herniated disk the size of a marbel, neither of which shows on a standard xray taken at the Chiro office.

What did show at the Chiro office was normal degeneration that happens with age for most of the population. Based on xray alone I was almost paralyzed for life because of those “adjustments.”

I now live with constant pain and permanent nerve damage.

If the pain doesn’t get better I’d make an appointment with an Ortho just to be safe.

Thanks! I realize that many chiros are mediocre or not very good (I saw one when I unknowingly had whipslash after a good college pillow-fight…he adjusted me and I ended up in the ER that night!).

I’ve had this injury looked at several times, and since I know it’s from an old injury that I never did anything about (when I was 20 and living on my own with no health ins), I feel pretty good about it all. Frankly, I think this chiro is better than the last one I saw for the same problem.

Anyway, I felt 50% better after 1 visit about about 80% better after 2…I am hoping that after a couple more adjustments I’ll feel 100%.

I guess chiros are just like regular drs…there are a few really good ones, most of them are “eh,” and a few should never have received a license to practice!

Oh, man, I thought you had written My Life Story for a minute there!

    Acupuncture. And ice packs.

But not at the same time.

    Hope you feel better.

First, just a little chiro…and ice packs. I thought it was my lower back for years, but it turns out it’s my pelvis that’s all outta wack from a fall about 20 years ago. It’s really inflammed, but I didn’t know it and had heat on it last night. She told me to use ice and aaaaaaaah, it felt so good. Not great, but a weensy bit better.

I’m gonna go get an ice pack right now, now that you mention it.

No, it’s real! I’ve had a back injury that crops up every few years, and it decided to come back yesterday after a writing stint at the Caribou. Last night and this morning I could hardly move or walk.

A friend helped me find a new chiropractor this morning (I quit my old one b/c it wasn’t helping me much and was too far). I saw her and I feel a weensy bit better. I have to go back tomorrow.

Sounds like me most days!! I’m still trying to decide if it is a side effect of my cholesterol med, or just the age thing….bummer!

This one was bad, I could hardly move. I am limiting my computer time to about 15 min b/c that’s all I can do in one position. But I did see a chiro today (and tomorrow) and it should be better soon. 😦
