Someone on the NaNo site posted this name generator, and I really like it. Character and name generators are a dime a dozen, but for me, the names are so often totally obscure, which doesn’t always fit in my novel.
This one lets you select from completely run-of-the-mill names, to way out there. Have fun!

There are a lot out there but some are so weird. I don’t want weird names. I tried this one and it’s pretty good.

I’ll be darned. There’s so much “out there” that I’m unaware of! Thanks for cluing me in on this one.

I tried it. Pretty good mix of traditional and ethnic names. Thanks!

I know, I like the names, even the ones that are less common are still real names… not like some of the other generators that create names like “Princess Two-Eye Starwalker.”

This will be fun to try out. Currently some of my characters have – uh – real names attached as place holders because I didn’t want to take the time to come up with decent phony names. So, of course, people could be lining up to sue me for libel in droves if I don’t get around to changing them before this masterpiece gets on the NYTimes best seller list.

I know…I think I need to make some of my names more distant from their real ones, too!
